Aggravated Battery at the Metro Link

On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at approximately 9: 50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Fairview Heights Metro Link station for a male who was causing a disturbance. While officers were responding a second 911 call was received to report the male had punched a Metro Link security officer and was now being restrained by witnesses.

Officers arrived and found the suspect being held on the ground by the Metro Link security officer and other witnesses, who had come to the aid of the unarmed guard. The suspect, Jeremiah M. McGee, was placed in handcuffs by FHPD officers and secured without resistance.

It was later learned several people at the bus stop complained to security that McGee had been walking around stepping on their feet intentionally. The security officer went to confront McGee and to also ask him to get off of a bus he had just boarded due to his behavior. While the security officer escorted him away from the bus McGee punched the officer in the face with his fist. McGee continued to strike the officer, which forced him to the ground until witnesses stepped in. The security officer refused medical treatment for his minor injuries.

Today charges were filed through the St. Clair County State Attorney, Brendan Kelly’s office, charging:

Jeremiah M. McGee
M/B, 38 years of age
511 N. 32nd Street
E. St. Louis

With one count of Aggravated Battery, which is a class 3 felony. He is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail with a $30,000 bond.

The Fairview Heights Metro Link is comprised of the parking lot and platform to board the trains. The FHPD patrols the parking lot and is responsible for any call originating from the parking lot and bus loading area. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for enforcement on the platform and on the trains. The Metro Link also contracts private security officers for their different properties.
