E. ST. LOUIS MAN CHARGED WITH ROBBERY

On Monday, November 6, 2017, at approximately 9 a.m., officers responded to the area of Ludwig Drive at Rt. 159 for a robbery, which had just occurred.

When officers arrived, they found the male victim lying in the grass with facial injuries. It was reported that the victim and suspect worked together and had ridden the bus to work in Fairview Heights. Once they got off the bus and began to walk to work the suspect punched the victim multiple times in the face and head. When the victim fell to the ground the suspect went through the victim’s pockets and removed cash and other items. Personnel from a nearby medical office provided treatment to the man while an ambulance responded. Officers were able to question the victim and witnesses, who knew the suspect by name as a co-worker of the victim. The suspect was later located after a search of the area.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not life-threatening.

Today, the St. Clair County State Attorney, Brendan Kelly’s office charged the suspect:

David C. Powers
M/B, 43 years of age
2900 block of Renshaw Avenue
East St. Louis, IL

With one-count of robbery and one-count of aggravated battery, which are both felonies.

Powers is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail with a $50,000 bond.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
