On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, the Fairview Heights Mayor and city council voted unanimously to appoint Captain, Christopher Locke as the city’s new Police Chief. Chris is a 24-year veteran of the police department and has served in many different capacities during his career along with being a Deputy Commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis. Chris is a United States Air Force veteran and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his military career he was assigned to the 375th Security Police Squadron and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, both units at Scott Air Force Base until his appointment to the Fairview Heights Police Department in 1994.
Chris holds an A.A.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Belleville Area College (SWIC) and a B.S. degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Sterling College. Chris also earned the Dean’s Scholar Award from the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville’s Administrative Officer’s Course.
Since July, Chris has served as the acting Chief of Police following the retirement of Chief Nicholas Gailius.
