Grab and Run Suspects Captured

On Saturday, July 29, 2017, at approximately 4:15 pm, Fairview Heights Police were dispatched to Macy’s, 200 St. Clair Square, where the store’s loss prevention officers attempted to stop three suspects for stealing an assortment of clothing items. Store security was able to stop one of the three suspect. Once the other suspects saw that one had been detained by loss prevention officers they returned along with a fourth suspect, a female, and began to fight with the officers. One of the loss prevention officers was punched and scratched by the female suspect as the other males freed the suspect who had been captured. They all entered their van and drove from the scene.

By this time, FHPD officers were in the area and attempted to stop the van, but it began to speed away until it was stopped by traffic at the intersection of North Illinois at the main mall entrance by stopped traffic. Officers quickly approached the van and were able to disable the vehicle so they would not be able to flee back to Missouri where they reside.

All four suspects were taken into custody, and approximately $3,600 worth of merchandise was recovered from the vehicle.
Loss prevention officers advised they also recognized the suspects as having committed this same type of theft before, along with also being suspected of thefts in other venues.

On Monday, July 31, 2017, the St. Clair County State Attorney, Brendan Kelly’s office issued the following charges:

Danny R. Julian M/B 37 years of age
4100 Block of Kossoch, St. Louis, MO

• Felony Retail Theft
• Mob Action
• Fleeing and Attempting to Elude a Police Officer
• Parole Violation Warrant-Original charges of Retail Theft

His bond was set at $50,000.

Randy K. Robinson M/B 31 years of age
5800 Block of Mardel, St. Louis, MO

• Felony Retail Theft
• Mob Action

His bond was set at $40,000.

Alethea D. Smooths F/B 36 years of age,
St. Louis, MO

• Felony Retail Theft
• Aggravated Battery-two counts
• Mob Action

His bond was set at $40,000.

The fourth suspect, a 12-year old juvenile has been referred to the juvenile court process for charges.

The Macy’s security officer received scratches and bruises from being punched by one of the suspects but did not require medical treatment.
