On Thursday, February 21, 2019, Fairview Heights’ Detectives received a warrant, charging:
Deann J. Touchette
42 years of age
with Armed Robbery with a firearm (Class X Felony) and Robbery (Class 2 Felony) for her role in the robbery, which occurred on February 17th. Touchette is currently being held at the St. Clair Jail with a $100,000 bond (10% cash). She was recently taken into custody by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

On Sunday, February 17, 2019, at approximately 8 a.m., officers responded to the Trailway Motel, 10039 Lincoln Trail for a 911 call reporting an armed robbery, which had just occurred.
The victim was able to provide the description of the three suspects, the getaway car, and their direction of travel. Responding officers were able to locate the vehicle fleeing westbound on St. Clair Avenue near IL Rt 157. Officers attempted to stop the car, an older Ford Taurus, but the occupants refused to stop. Officers pursued the vehicle west into East St. Louis and were joined by other neighboring departments, who assisted in the pursuit.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle for a short period of time but were later able to take one of the suspects into custody on foot, and later recovered the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in the 2500 block of Douglas, East St. Louis. Officers from multiple jurisdictions along with a K9 unit from the Illinois State Police scoured the area but were not able to locate the two other suspects.
The male victim was able to provide officers with a detailed account of what had happened. The victim works with a female who he had been with him in Fairview Heights on the previous day shopping and going out to eat. Later in the day, they rented a room at the motel where they stayed all night until approximately 7 a.m. when the victim noticed the female was gone. She returned a short time later with two other males who robbed the victim at gunpoint. The two males and female left the room with several items and entered the female’s vehicle, the Ford Taurus and fled the motel. The victim was able to positively identify the male suspect in custody and the female.
Today, February 18, 2019, the case was referred to the St Clair County State Attorney, James Gomric’s office. A warrant was issued, charging:
Dwayne M. Stewart
44 years of age
East St. Louis
with the following felony offenses:
Armed Robbery with Firearm-Class X Felony
Robbery-Class 2 Felony
Stewart’s bond is set at $75,000 (10% cash), he is currently being held at the St Clair County Jail.
At this time, the investigation continues, and police are asking for help in locating the two other suspects, who remain at large.
