Recovered-Stolen Box Truck

In the mid-morning hours of Friday, December 27, 2018, detectives from the Fairview Heights Police Department were able to recover the stolen Grand Rental Station box truck with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Air Operations Unit and their plane. Working off of information reported to the police department, detectives narrowed their search to a wooded area around Fairview Heights. While flying overhead of one of the areas the truck was spotted. Detectives on the ground were able to move in to the area to recover the vehicle, which was unoccupied and abandoned.

At this time, detectives are examining evidence and continuing the investigation.

On Monday, December 24, 2018, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Fairview Heights Police Department learned that a box truck had been stolen from the Grand Rental Station, 5612 N. Illinois.

From surveillance video it appears at approximately 11:30 p.m. on the previous evening a male broke out the driver’s side window to enter the 14-foot box truck where he was able to defeat the ignition to start the vehicle.

The vehicle is further described as a white, 1999 Ford E-350 box truck with Grand Rental stickers. At the time of the theft, the truck was displaying Illinois license plates, 86178D.

The police department is looking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fairview Heights Police Department at (618) 489-2100. If found, we ask you not to approach the truck, instead, contact your local police department.
